We've had a great week!

On Thursday this week, we were lucky enough to be visited by a teacher and some A level chemistry students from St. Thomas More School in Bedford. They ran a science workshop for us and Zebra class. We did three experiments. These were: chromatography, in which we were able to see how many different colours there were in brown and black felt tip pens. The results were very surprising! The second experiment involved testing different liquids (e.g. mouthwash, hand wash, washing powder, vinegar, HCl and bicarbonate of soda) to identify how acidic or alkaline they are. We used drops of universal indicator, which turned the liquid a different colour, which we could then match up to a pH indicator scale. The final experiment we did was making slime using pva glue and borax. This is a toxic substance and so we weren’t allowed to touch the slime. Finally, the teacher did a demonstration for us where she made ‘elephant toothpaste’, which was the result of a dramatic chemical reaction! It was an excellent workshop and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

We have been building up to writing our own thriller narratives this week. It is quite a skill to have to build the tension gradually in writing. We are going to continue with our stories next week.

Today we have been celebrating Red Nose Day. We have worn red and had crazy hair. We had a magnificent cake sale at breaktime. Thank you so much for the donations from home, we raised a lot of money.

On Wednesday, Roop taught us a Bhangra dance. Not only was it good fun, but it turned out to be an incredibly good workout! Roop was a great teacher and she was pretty impressed by our efforts.

We can’t believe there are only two weeks to go until the Easter holidays! Where is the year going?
