Friday 16th September 2022

The children have had an extremely busy and hard-working start to their new year in Meerkats, as big Year 2 pupils.

Although there are still lots of times when the children can independently choose their learning, it is of course different from Year 1, where there was more playing.  However, the children are improving so much day by day with their ability to sustain their focus for longer periods.

We spent our first week, getting to know the children and finding out all about the knowledge and skills they have acquired so far, particularly in English and Maths.  This is really important so we know what they need to learn next!

During the second week, to commemorate the sad passing of Her Majesty the Queen, the children created poems about the Queen.  These will be compiled into a beautiful poem book, which we will put in our Reading Room.

In Maths, the children have been learning about Number Place and Value.  We have been consolidating numbers from 1-100 forwards and backwards, 1 more and 1 less than any number to 100, different ways these numbers can be represented, writing numbers as words and digits and tens and ones.

Out Topic work is just beginning, but I am sure the children are going to love it when it really gets going…news coming soon on what and when our Sparkling Start will be!

Today the children really enjoyed the challenge of creating some fantastic castle pictures with lots of different 2D shapes.
