Black History Month

Hello everyone.

Due to so many children being absent during October, we have decided to hold Black History month during November instead.

Why is Black History Month necessary?

People from African and Caribbean backgrounds have been a fundamental part of British history for centuries. However, campaigners believe their value and contribution to society is often overlooked, ignored or distorted.

Most schools still teach a history curriculum which focuses on traditional events and the achievements of white figures. Black History Month gives everyone the opportunity to share, celebrate and understand the impact of black heritage and culture.

Teachers in all classes will be talking about and researching significant people in history. In addition, we have some beautiful and informative books for all ages which we will be sharing with the children.

Of course, we promote a diverse and inclusive curriculum for all months of the year, but for November we will be having an extra special in-depth look into Black History.
