Physical Education

Intent - what do we want to achieve?

In the KT Federation, we aim to provide a PE curriculum that allows children to experience a range of activities that help them to develop their health, fitness and wellbeing. We offer a high-quality physical education curriculum that inspires all children to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It provides opportunities for children to become physically literate in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed our Federation values.

Implementation - how will we achieve this?

We work closely with our sports provider, ‘Premier Sports’, who teach all areas of the national curriculum. Children are taught regularly by both teaching staff and a specialised sports instructor from Year 1 to Year 6. Competition is integral to our PE curriculum for all children to strive to compete and excel while demonstrating our Federation Values.  Children from Year 1 – 6 are involved in team competitive events throughout the year with other primary schools.  Sports Festivals are held at Sharnbrook Academy, Lincroft Academy and sometimes further afield in Bedford Town schools.

We listen to our children – when surveyed they requested more outdoor activities and sports clubs. Therefore, we offer a variety of extra-curricular clubs at lunchtimes and after school. We participate in a range of initiatives and additional experiences (ie. the “Mile a Day” and Fitness weeks) where staff and children actively join in with walking / running each day and other sporting events to keep our hearts, bodies and minds healthy.

We are subscribed to '5 a Day TV' and staff use this towards our commitment to the engagement of all children in regular physical activity.

Impact - what will be the impact on learning?

We help motivate children to participate in a variety of sports through quality teaching that is engaging and fun. Children learn to take responsibility for their own health and fitness, many enjoy the success of competitive sports. We equip our children with the necessary skills and a love for sport. They will hopefully grow up to live happy and healthy lives utilising the skills and knowledge learnt through PE.

Teachers plan and teach their own PE lessons which are monitored by the Federation PE subject lead. We use formative and summative assessment to determine children’s understanding and inform teachers planning.
