Hello families of the Monkeys Class,

What a wonderful week we've had in our final stretch of the summer term! The children have been full of excitement and energy, and we've packed in lots of fun learning and hands-on experiences.

🔤 Phonics and Writing

This week, we’ve been recapping all the phonics sounds we’ve learnt throughout the year. The Monkeys have done a fantastic job remembering their sounds and using them to blend and segment words confidently. We’ve also been practising our sentence writing—the children are working so hard to remember finger spaces, capital letters, and full stops. It’s been brilliant to see how far they’ve come with their writing!

🔢 Marvellous Maths

In maths, we explored repeating patterns. The children enjoyed using colours, shapes, and even actions to make their own patterns. We also talked about how to create a rule for a pattern, and they were very proud to explain their thinking!

🌱 Garden to Plate

A big highlight this week was harvesting our very own vegetables from the garden. The children helped to pull up carrots, courgettes, and potatoes, and we talked about how they grow underground. Then came the tastiest part—we turned our potatoes into homemade chips and roasted the courgettes and carrots. Everyone enjoyed trying them as part of our afternoon snack, and we were so proud of the children for giving everything a try!

🏖️ Looking Ahead – Beach Day on Monday!

Next week, we will be celebrating the end of term with our Fabulous Finish Beach Day!
On Monday, the children will enjoy:

• Water play 💦
• Sandcastle building 🏰
• Ice creams with a choice of toppings 🍦

Please send your child to school in ‘beach clothes’ (weather permitting) and pack:

• Something they can get wet in, or a swimming kit
• A towel
• Water shoes (very important, as we will be outside on hard flooring most of the day)

We can’t wait to enjoy this special day together and celebrate a fantastic year in the Monkeys Class!
