Here is the latest news from Meerkat class.

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are becoming great writers!  This week we have been writing some fantastic re-tells of the story of Jack and the Beanstalk.

We have been thinking really carefully about using different ways to start our sentences, (e.g. “Quick as a flash”), different connectives (e.g. because, then or but), similes (e.g. as fast as a cheetah) and interesting adjectives (like “massive giant”).  We even had to think about –ly words - these are called adverbs – e.g “quickly” and “speedily”.  Mrs Morel is really proud of our writing.

We have been learning more about money but have one more lesson on giving change before we move onto shape!  It will be so fun to work on this lovely practical side of Maths, after what seems like a very long time learning and consolidating number work and counting!

We have been looking at the art work of Bridget Riley

and Yayoi Kusama.

Their work became popular in the 1960’s.

Bridget Riley’s art was so popular that people began to copy it for style patterns on clothes, furniture and jewellery! (Bridget Riley did not like this!) She is now 90 years old!  Yayoi Kusama’s art is being exhibited in the Tate Modern right now! Yayoi is now 92 years old!

So far, the children have done some fantastic “op art” of their own. We will begin to learn more about the Swinging Sixties soon by looking at the famous pop singers “The Beatles” and we shall be listening to some of their music.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Best wishes from Meerkats and Mrs Morel
