Friday 23rd September 2022

We have squeezed a lot into the last four days!

It’s been back to normal this week, after the busy few days of Bikeability. Lots of us watched some or all of the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on Monday. Mrs Smith even went to London to watch from The Mall. Mrs Rahman had queued for 10 hours overnight in order to pay her respects at Westminster Hall.

On Thursday, we started our first ‘Independent’ task, which is to study the impact of diet and exercise on the human body. We have started to do lots of research and then we are able to choose how to present our work. This time, we are making posters, writing news reports, creating PowerPoints and making leaflets.

One of our homework tasks this term is to create a healthy snack. So far, we have been treated to a delicious range of dips with crudites made by Lilly, a protein-rich smoothie made by Harvey and a fruity banana and strawberry smoothie made by Ellalouise. Mrs Smith thinks that food homework is the BEST type of homework!

We have been working extremely hard on our reading lessons, which we have three times a week. We are currently focusing on learning new vocabulary and improving our reading resilience. The theme for this week has been Adventure stories and each day we have read short extracts from three different novels in this genre.

This term, we have a new PE teacher called Mr Tomlinson (he says we can call him Mr T). He is teaching us tag rugby this half term.

Some of us have started attending a new Spanish club, led by Senora Bentley, which happens after school on a Tuesday. We are looking forward to learning some of a new language.

Finally, we were all very excited to hear the announcement of our Head Boy and Head Girl for this year. Some of our brave Year 6 children had put themselves forward for nomination and then all the staff voted. Our Head Girl for this year is Toni-Rose and our Head Boy is Quinton. We know they will carry out their roles brilliantly. On Monday, we are going to listen to some pitches from children about becoming House Captains. All the children in the school will vote for who they would like their House Captain to be. More news next week!
