Hello and welcome to our first Meerkats class blog. We have been loving our topic “Under the Sea”. So far, we have been really inspired by the fantastic book “The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch”.

We joined together to work as a team to make a lovely class display for the story –  a giant picture!

We are proud of this as it was quite tricky! We have also written lunch menus, drawn story maps and retold the story too in our own words.

Lots of the children in the class have done some absolutely BRILLIANT homework too from our “Under the Sea” Homework Menu.  We are trying out best with the TT rockstars battles too!

As part of our Sparkling Start we made our own lighthouse sandwiches.

There was a great assortment of fillings and styles from cheese and ham wraps, to sandwiches with frazzle crisps inside them – Mrs Morel thought this was very original! After our sandwiches we had jelly – there were three flavours and all with lots juicy peaches if we wanted!  All this was a surprise – like the “Peach Surprise” in the story. We did eat a lot.  Mrs Morel and Mrs Beard were amazed that we still managed to eat our lunch!

After lunch we were put into three groups and had a Drama session …. practicing acting out the story, we all had parts and there were props and “costumes”. We watched each other’s plays which were fantastic.

As part of World Maths Day we joined up with Lions class. The Y5/6 children had designed lots of amazing maths games and activities so that we could show off our skills.

I think the children in Lions were impressed. Thank you so much Lions class for making this happen AND all the great house points and certificates you gave out.

I hope you liked hearing about just some of what we have been up to in our busy class.

Watch out for next blog! Bye for now.
