Welcome to our last blog of this half-term! Where has the time gone?

It has been Children’s Mental Health Week this week. We have been looking at some resources around the theme this year, which is GROWING TOGETHER. We listened to some ‘Growth stories’, from Dr Alex George (the UK Youth Mental Health Ambassador), Mandip Gill (the Doctor Who actor) and Sky Brown (the Olympic skateboarder), where they explained how they have grown and developed emotionally from childhood and throughout their careers.

Tuesday was the annual Safer Internet Day. The theme this year was, ‘It’s all fun and games’. We tried out some quiz questions and thought about what are the correct things to say and things not to say in various scenarios around our use of the internet. We learned that we need to respect other people and their opinions in order to form healthy relationships online.

One of the highlights of our week was meeting Sean Rose on Tuesday. He is a truly inspirational man who has achieved so much in his life, despite a terrible skiing accident which resulted in a spinal cord injury. We were blown away by his adventurous spirit and all the things he has managed to do, including being water skiing world champion and going to compete in the Paralympic winter games twice. Many of us were really inspired by all the messages he gave us.

Finally, Forest School was great this week. We went out in small groups and had our first experience with a fire. We roasted marshmallows - a few incidents with slightly burnt or drippy ones - but we had a great time!
