Well, we are well and truly back into forest school this academic year!

We have experienced lots of different weather-sun, clouds, rain, heavy rain and some wind! The children have been amazing stepping straight back into their wellies and being so imaginative. The new Monkey children have got into the forest school way very quickly with different activities each week to introduce them to our wonderful outside space and look at nature in a more in-depth way. We have seen water systems with the pipes, hapa zome skills being used, blackberry tie-dye, tool work, artistic flare with nature, coffee shops being created and jumping in puddles! The big puddles which formed in the field due to the heavy play brought on lots of imagination and learning. There were lots of talk about water displacement, a meteor being discovered (a brick in the ground), Music being made with drumkits they have made, measuring depths with sticks and wellies, moving the water from the puddles to a different location, feeling the temperature, making boats from sticks and feeling the sensation of the water.

One day we found a Salamander in our den building sticks pile (please see our Facebook page for photos). This sparked off lots of interest, discussion and children creating a temporary home for it so they could look at it. How amazing!

We have also found some interesting looking fungus, which is safe, called Witches Butter! Very relevant for the time of year as we approach Halloween season.

So as we have felt the autumn approaching once we return after the half term I am sure that winter will be close. Hats, scarves, gloves, warm coat and water proof will be a must. Cant wait to see what we get up to in the next half term.

Best Wishes,

Ranger Nina
